This is a 16-week triathlon training plan to prepare you for the unique demands of an extreme triathlon at the half “Iron” distance.
The plan is designed for experienced athletes, already familiar with triathlon training and preferably with triathlon experience.
It contains bespoke workouts tailored for the swim, bike and run, including specifics around the course profile and the unique challenges presented by extreme triathlons (terrain, altitude etc.).
The plan covers 16 weeks, split into 2 to 3 build weeks followed by a recovery week. There is a 3-week taper.
Strength & conditioning sessions are focused on stability, then strength, then power cycles.
Written by Coach Doug Stewart, an experienced triathlon and endurance sports coach who has prepared multiple finishers at Norseman (black t-shirt), Celtman (blue t-shirt), Swissman, Swedeman, ICON, etc. He has also completed Celtman, Swissman, and Swedeman himself.
